Short Renaissance dances from France, England and Italy

The course features a selection of lively little dances from a wide variety of countries and decades: well-known dances such as the ‘Petit Vriense’ as well as lesser-known ones, such as the version of ‘La Vida di Colei’ from the Nuremberg manuscript; little dances from the Gresley manuscript; familiar and surprising pieces from the records of the Inns of Court; the original version of ‘Musical Chairs’ or the chase for a lady ...
An understanding of Renaissance styles is an advantage for putting together your repertoire for the ball, but it is not essential.

Instructor: Mareike Greb

Mareike Greb is a freelance dancer and actress based in Leipzig. After training in ballet, she began to devote herself to historical dance and performance practice whilst still a teenager, studying under Lieven Baert, Véronique Daniels, Markus Lehner, Barbara Sparti, Kaj Sylegard and Béatrice Massin, amongst others. Mareike Greb teaches at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre and performs nationally and internationally as a soloist and in various ensembles. She choreographs and directs for the stage and film; amongst other things, she is the new choreographer for the Landshut Wedding in 2027 and directs productions at the Liebhabertheater Schloss Kochberg. Since completing her studies in theatre studies, musicology and comparative literature at the University of Leipzig as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation, she has also been conducting intensive academic research into dance and music from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period.

Cancellation policy:
You may cancel your booking free of charge up until the last day of the registration period (31 August). If you do not attend a booked event, the course fee cannot be refunded (Exception: medical certificate). However, it is possible to transfer your place on the course to a ‘replacement participant’.
